How We Vet Our Quran Tutors

Qualified online quran mentors

Qualification Check

Before anything else, we look at a candidate’s formal education, prior teaching experience, and any relevant certifications in Quran and Tajweed instruction. This first filter rules out anyone without a genuine academic or scholarly background in what they’d be teaching. A confident manner on a video call isn’t a substitute for real qualifications, and this is where we make sure it isn’t being treated as one.

Hafiz or Hafizah Status — Non-Negotiable

We only hire tutors who have fully memorized the Quran. If a candidate hasn’t completed Hifz, they don’t move forward, regardless of how strong their other qualifications look. This isn’t a preference; it’s a hard requirement. A tutor who has genuinely internalized the entire Quran brings a depth of familiarity with the text — recognizing patterns, catching a student’s small mistakes instantly, connecting one verse to another — that simply can’t be replicated by someone who hasn’t.

Tajweed Assessment

Every candidate’s own Tajweed is checked directly, not assumed from their certificates. A tutor can’t correct a student’s pronunciation and recitation if their own recitation isn’t precise. This is where we listen closely, verse by verse, before anyone is allowed anywhere near a real class.

Months of Structured Training

Passing the first three steps doesn’t mean a candidate starts teaching immediately. Everyone who makes it this far goes through several months of internal training focused specifically on how to teach, not just what they already know. This covers how to engage students across different ages, from young children who need short, playful lessons to adults who need a more direct, explanation-driven approach. Knowing the Quran well and knowing how to hold a distracted seven-year-old’s attention, or explain a Tajweed rule clearly to a busy working adult, are genuinely different skills. We train for both before a tutor is handed real students.

Why We’re Sharing This Publicly

Most families looking into Online Quran Classes are quietly asking some version of the same question: who exactly is going to be teaching my child, and how do I actually know they’re qualified? A vague reassurance doesn’t answer that. A specific process does. We’d rather you know exactly what a tutor had to go through before they ever met your family, than ask you to take our word for it.

At Urwa Academy, this process applies to every tutor without exception, male or female, whether they’ll be teaching a five-year-old their first letters or an adult reading the Quran for the first time. If you’d like to see it in action before committing to anything, every new student starts with a free trial class, so you can judge a tutor’s actual teaching style directly, not just take our process on faith.
